Heed my words, all classes of men, you greater and lesser children of Heimdall. You summoned me, Odin, to tell what I recall of the oldest deeds of gods and men.”

This UNESCO World Heritage recognised manuscript collection is central to Icelandic National Identity. The books include the Icelandic Sagas, some of the earliest and only records of the Norse mythology system. Visitors witness the scope of what these books contain - the Beginning of the World, Birth and Death, Belief and Justice, Sickness and Health, the Rise and Fall of Kings, and ultimately, the End of the World.

In addition to the significant cultural and historical legacy of the manuscripts, there is a rich visual character to the objects themselves that we were committed to centring in this exhibition. Nowhere is this clearer than the immersive AV projection spanning the entire back wall of the space, which portrays the stories of the mythology and worldview found in the manuscripts.

What’s the story...

This is a story of gods, giants, monsters and all kinds of wonderful creatures - exploring the beliefs and worldview of the people who created these incredible books.”

What the client said...

Working with Studio MB was really enjoyable. They produced a beautiful and innovative design. The whole exhibition- the presentation of objects, texts, interactives, films and touch screens- was creative and thought through to the last detail.”
