Let your home be your mast and not your anchor”

Kahlil Gibran

We’re all immensely proud of our origins here in one of Europe’s most beautiful capital cities. As home to the world’s largest international festivals of arts and culture, Edinburgh has been Studio MB’s launchpad for work that has been international in reach and global in outlook since our beginnings two decades ago.

Today, we imagine and we deliver for amazing projects all over the world. From Reykjavík to Riyadh, Delhi to Durham, San Antonio to Shanghai.

Establish a design studio, not a design company”

Charlie Barr, Studio MB

In March 2004 Craig and Charlie signed the lease for an office within a mid-19th century bond warehouse bang in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Leith Docks area and began Studio MB. From the beginning there was a determination to create a studio, not a company, with the focus firmly on design excellence.

Now 22 years wiser, and sadly 22 years older, we can safely say we are an established and successful international design company. However, our studio origins and continuing ambition for design excellence – always putting the client’s projects first – remains as true today as it always has.

A studio of storytellers

We are multi-disciplinary designers, content developers, interpretive strategists, researchers, master planners and project managers. However, when it comes to creating coherent narrative environments for museums, cultural attractions, heritage destinations, science centres and brand homes, it is our ability to tell imaginative and emotive stories that defines our design approach and makes our visitor experiences so special - experiences that inspire, involve and inform.

It takes all sorts

We all come from a variety of backgrounds - interiors, exhibition, architecture, graphics, product, audio visual, theatre, marketing, psychology... even accountancy.

This rich assortment creates a studio of complimentary skills, and provides an inter-disciplinary talent resource that can meet both the plentiful and peculiar challenges that each project we undertake provides.
